This timeline will be regularly updated as the Panama Pacifico project moves forward:

1914 Panama Canal opens.

1942 USAF Howard Air Force Base opens.

11/1999 USAF Howard Air Force Base closes. Ownership transferred from the United States of America to the Government of Panama.

12/1999 Control of the Panama Canal transferred from the United States of America to the Government of Panama.

6/2005 Government of Panama, AAEEPP and World Bank launch international competition to select a Master Developer for the Howard site.

10/2006 Panamanian Public Referendum approves plans for US$5.2B expansion of Panama Canal.

02/2007 L&R submits winning bid of US$705M for the former USAF Howard Air Force Base.

03/2007 L&R appoints Atkins plc, one of the worlds leading masterplanning and engineering companies, to produce a detailed masterplan proposal for Panama Pacifico.

03/2007 L&R and its local partner, Jaime Gilinski, put US$100M on deposit as seed capital to kick-start the mobilization of the project.

04/2007 Team of 20 Atkins plc architects, masterplanners, engineers, surveyors and transportation experts arrive in Panama City to commence work on masterplan.

09/2007 L&R submits master plan to AAEEPP for approval.

12/2007 AAEEPP approves the master plan for the project.

02/2008 Project team assembles on the ground in Panama.

Current Plans for four new areas are being designed, which include: the International Business Park, a logistics park, the Town Center and new residential.
